Arm Lift

Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is a procedure designed to eliminate excess skin on the upper arms. In recent years, the popularity of arm lift surgery has increased as more people have been successful in losing large amounts of weight.

After significant weight loss, it’s common to exhibit excess skin in certain areas, and the upper arms are especially prone to this condition. Hanging skin on the upper arms often causes a person to become self-conscious or embarrassed and therefore, reluctant to wear clothing that exposes the upper arms. Since diet and exercise cannot eradicate excess skin, arm lift surgery is necessary to permanently resolve the problem.

Who is a Good Candidate For an Arm Lift?

Candidates for arm lift surgery include those that exhibit ‘deflated’ upper arms due to significant weight loss or lost skin elasticity. Ideal candidates will have a limited (or thin) amount of excess subcutaneous fat in the area. In some cases, liposuction may be used to reduce fat before the arm lift is performed. Patients considering arm lift surgery should be healthy non-smokers, with a stable weight and realistic expectations.

How is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?

Brachioplasty requires an incision on the back of each upper arm traveling from the armpit area toward the elbow. Excess skin and tissue is removed and internal sutures are used to tighten and reshape the tissue.

After Arm Lift Surgery

Scars will fade and flatten out after surgery, but remain evident. Many are willing to accept this drawback in order to correct their condition. Smoother, more contoured arms are achievable through arm lift surgery, which makes it a satisfying procedure for many patients.
