Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, otherwise known as lipoinjection or fat grafting, is a method of soft tissue augmentation that dates back many years. The intended use is basically the same as other types of wrinkle fillers.

In fat transfer, we focus on increasing volume, softening lines, filling in deep wrinkles or creases, and contouring certain areas. The reason for this is simple: a plump, full face is characteristic of youth. Using fat transfer to reverse age related facial fat loss is one way to restore that fullness.

How Does Fat Transfer Work

In clinical terms, the procedure is called “lipoinjection with autologous fat,” meaning the injection of fat obtained from the same individual’s body. Fat transfer is a two-stage procedure: fatty tissue is harvested with a syringe or thin tube (called a microcannula) and later injected in small droplets to areas that need volume. Dr. Will uses fat transfer to treat sunken, hollow cheeks or deep furrows.

After Fat Transfer

Fat injection is a more intricate process than injection of other dermal fillers, since it requires extraction of fat and special knowledge regarding the fat’s reintegration within your body. Patients may experience some swelling and bruising after the procedure. When done correctly, fat transfer can bring about pleasing, natural looking results that noticeably improve your appearance.
