Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation can be performed using either surgical or non-surgical methods.

These days, the most popular lip enhancement techniques use hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm or Restylane. Other options for lip augmentation include collagen, fat transfer, or liquid silicone. Ideally, our approach with lip augmentation will address the inner lip, the lipstick lines and the outer mouth.

Who is a good candidate for Lip Augmentation?

The general goals of lip augmentation are to increase the ‘kissable’ area and reduce wrinkles around the patient’s mouth. Each patient is different; some require only volume enhancement, while others need reshaping and rejuvenation as well.

Non-Surgical Lip Enhancement

Non-surgical lip enhancement with fillers is appreciated for its immediate results and no downtime. Fillers are able to plump up the lips, providing that full, sexy appearance that you desire. Lip enhancement is an excellent choice for women who have seen their lips thin out over time, or those that were simply born with thin lips.

Using local anesthesia to minimize pain, Dr. Will injects filler into specific areas of the lips, taking extra care to maintain their natural lines and borders. The injection area may require some massaging afterwards to ensure a smooth result.

Although some patients have reported results lasting as long as 1 year, hyaluronic acid fillers typically produce results that last 8-12 months. Some patients report minor bruising and swelling, which subsides in a few days.

Surgical Lip Augmentation

Surgical methods can provide a more permanent lip augmentation with placement of a synthetic (usually Gore-Tex) implant within the lips. This can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Patients typically report swelling and bruising that takes about 1-2 weeks to fully subside.
