Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia is a benign condition that affects males, characterized by an abnormal amount of breast tissue. Gynecomastia can be an embarrassing problem for men of all ages, and few of them know it is caused by a hormone imbalance. Many choose to simply ignore it, dealing with the problem of male breasts by trying to hide them or even gaining weight to make them appear normal.

Signs of gynecomastia include the following:

  • An abnormal amount of breast tissue
  • Feminine-looking breasts
  • Breast pain
  • Swelling in nipple area
  • Discharge

Fortunately, male breast reduction is an effective surgical procedure for men that we offer to provide a flat, masculine chest and alleviate the embarrassment associated with male breasts.

Who is a good candidate for male breast reduction?

Patients should first explore their alternatives to see if the hormone imbalance can be resolved. Gynecomastia may improve on its own over time, so rushing into surgery isn’t recommended. Obese patients are also advised to reach a stable, healthy weight before considering male breast reduction.

How is male breast reduction performed?

Male breast reduction surgery requires an incision around the nipple. Liposuction techniques are then used to remove excess fat and tissue from the chest. After surgery, some bruising and swelling may make it difficult to appreciate the results. Semi-permanent scars around the areola are also common, which will fade and flatten out over time.

A few months after surgery, you’ll be able to appreciate your flatter, more masculine chest. A regular fitness routine can ensure optimum, long-term results. To discuss male breast reduction with Dr. Will, contact us for a consultation.
