Restylane

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid gel designed to fill facial wrinkles and folds and perform soft tissue augmentation. Hyaluronic acid is the most popular dermal filler agent, and it’s actually a natural molecule that functions in the dermis as a space filler, cell protector, and volumizer.

What Can Be Treated With Restylane?

At our office, we use Restylane to fill lines and wrinkles such as the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Surgeons also frequently use Restylane to augment or restore contour to other areas like the lips, cheeks, glabella, and perioral regions.

How is Restylane Treatment Performed?

Using a fine (27-30 gauge) needle, Restylane is injected into areas that have lost volume and formed a crease or line. Topical anesthetic or a nerve block can be used to ensure your comfort during this short procedure. After injection, the treated area may be massaged briefly. It’s common to experience some minor swelling and bruising, but it should subside in a short amount of time.

Results of Restylane Treatment

How long the results last will depend on how long it takes your body to break down and absorb the hyaluronic acid. In most areas, patients should expect about 6 months. Areas like the cheeks, that don’t move as easily, may last longer.

Restylane is a popular dermal filler with a high patient satisfaction rate. It has been in use longer than many of the other fillers available today. If you’re interested in learning more, contact the Urbana surgery office of Dr. Michael Will.
