A facelift can be a great way to turn back the hands of time and reveal a fresh, youthful you. However, before undergoing a facelift, it’s important to be sure you are a good candidate. Just as with any elective cosmetic procedure, there are certain considerations that must be taken into account before deciding a facelift is a good option to achieve your goals.

What Can a Facelift Do for You?
A facelift is a great way to treat:
- Jowls
- Loose, sagging skin
- Deep wrinkles
After a facelift, your skin will be tighter and smoother, and you’ll look more youthful. A facelift isn’t a magic wand, though, and it won’t return you to your 20s or make you into a different person. After a facelift, you’ll still look like yourself, just refreshed and with 5 or 10 years taken off of your appearance.
A facelift doesn’t address the entire face, although it can be combined with other procedures such as a brow lift or dermal fillers for more comprehensive results. On its own, though, a facelift addresses the jawline and lower face. A neck lift can also be done at the same time in order to create a smoother neck that matches with your new, youthful jawline.
Who Will Benefit from a Facelift?
Typically, the people who will benefit most from a facelift are those in their 50s or 60s who want to get rid of jowls and tighten sagging skin on the lower face and jawline. Younger men and women can also be candidates, but it will depend on your skin quality. If you are 40 but years of sun or lifestyle damage have translated to visible jowls and sagging, you may benefit from a facelift despite being on the young side for one.
The best facelift candidates:
- Have realistic expectations
- Are non-smokers
- Are in general good health
- Are mentally ready to undergo cosmetic surgery
If you are a smoker, you will need to be able to quit for at least two weeks before and after surgery. Smoking significantly raises the danger of complications from surgery and can impede healing. We highly recommend trying to quit smoking altogether, but if you are unable, quitting temporarily will at least mitigate your risk.
If you suffer from any chronic medical conditions, check with your primary doctor to make sure it’s safe to undergo cosmetic surgery.
